If you've been reading this blog lately (which seems to have become a one-issue blog in the past couple of weeks), then you know that the same-sex marriage issue is an important one to me. It's one that reaches into my day-to-day life, affecting both my present and my future. It's personal.
I guess if I could say one thing to George W. Bush, that would be it. Things just got personal, and he made sure they did.
I'd tell him that he made an enemy today. He aimed his constitutional amendment at my family. That's not something I take lightly.
I said earlier that I found it hard to get excited about this year's election, particularly with Howard Dean dropping out. I said that while I would vote for the Democratic nominee (most likely Kerry), I probably wouldn't campaign for him.
George W. Bush has changed that. It is now my personal mission to see him out of office. From today on, I will do everything in my power to see him defeated in November. Not only will I vote for the Democratic nominee in this election, I will actively campaign for the nominee. I will raise funds. I will contribute to the nominee's campaign. I will volunteer locally, to phonebank, register voters, and anything else I can do to help remove George W. Bush from office.
I hope anyone and everyone who believes in equality under the law will join me in this. No matter who you are, or where you are, there is something you can do beyond voting; whether writing a check or spending an afternon stuffing envelopes, or going door to door canvasing voters. Whatever it is, do something.
Like I said before, it's personal; for me, and for anyone who believes in equality.
