I had to rethink my question, but I think I've got it now. What I really want to know is this: are there really people in the world who are so successful in all—or nearly all—their endeavors that they are virtually unacquainted with failure? What is that like?

how do you define success? and failure? I'm by no means an expert, but suffice it to say that I know some very VERY successful people and none of them are in their respective positions in life because they never encountered "failure". If anything, they've encountered more of it but also were willing and able to embrace it and get back up.
I don't think one can be ready for success without being ready for failure. Success/failure then only become two sides of the same coin...

Surely the perfectly successful are familiar with the failures of others, for others' failures are necessary for their success.
Only those who don't think of success might never encounter failure.
