Loyalty Oath?
Apparently, Americans must now sign a loyalty oath before hearing the vice president speak—loyalty to Bush, that is.
Some Democrats who signed up to hear Vice President Dick Cheney speak Saturday were refused tickets unless they signed a pledge to endorse President Bush. The measure was a security step designed to avoid a disruption, which Bush campaign spokesman Dan Foley alleged Democrats were planning. Democratic Party officials denied it.
Several Democrats encountered the screening measures Thursday after calling from a line that self-identified as ACT, America Coming Together, an activist group that supports Kerry, Foley said. Others tried to give false names and were denied tickets, he said.
Courtney Hunter, communications director for ACT, said Friday: "To the best of our knowledge, no one called from our office misrepresenting themselves.
"These types of evasive tactics are occurring all over the county as the Bush-Cheney campaign refuses to allow Americans into their events."
It's an interesting campaign strategy, speaking only to one's supporters. It makes for a much easier campaign for the candidates, if not a more informative one for the voters. Imagine, you can attend a speech, so long as you guarantee beforehand that you agree with everything the speaker is going to say.
I'm not sure what's more amazing, that the Bush/Cheney team would use such tatics, that people would actually put up with them, or that we'd hear so little about them in the press.

The real question...what is America thinking?? Everytime I hear something new I just cringe. He has got to go!

In case you didn't see this on the Daily Show, the actual oath that people had to sign read exactly as follows (no sh*t, typos and all...)
"I, [full name], do herby endorse George W. Bush for the re-election of the United States."
